Scheduled Maintenance - June 1, 2017

The next scheduled maintenance window for the HPC systems is June 1, 2017 8AM - June 2, 2017 8AM.

During this time the Neon and Argon systems will be offline for maintenance. All jobs running at the beginning of the maintenance will be killed.

The following work is currently scheduled:

Neon System

  • System updates and security patches.
  • Expansion of home account storage.

Argon System

  • System updates and security patches.
  • Work on outstanding issues with the Argon Omnipath high speed network.
  • Recable incorrect connections.
  • Install new scratch system. - A new nfs scratch filesystem that usese the 100Gb Omnipath network on Argon will enter its test phase and be available for use at /testnfsscratch. Assuming testing goes well this filesystem will replace the existing /nfsscratch filesystem in the late Summer/early Fall time frame. We encourage use of the new test system and feedback on the performance you experience.
  • Add Singularity Support - The Singularity container software will be available on Argon after maintenance. Singularity allows you to build a container of a software stack or workflow that can be copied to Argon, and run. The container can be of a different OS than what Argon runs. This allows for a great deal of flexibility in developing, maintaining, and reproducing software environments for your computations. See Singularity Containers - HPC Documentation - UIowa Wiki for more information.
