The next scheduled maintenance window for the HPC systems is February 8, 2018 8AM - February 9, 2018 8AM.

During this time the Neon and Argon systems will be offline for maintenance. All jobs running at the beginning of the maintenance will be killed.

The HPC team has concluded initial evaluation of the Meltdown and Spectre processor vulnerabilities. All HPC systems are vulnerable, as are the vast majority of computing devices.

The Neon HPC system will be five years old in October 2018 and was purchased with a five year warranty. The system has experienced a high failure rate during it's four years of operation and with this in mind an expected shutdown date of June 1, 2019 has been set.

On January 2, 2018 we will be setting the default process mapping for the system OpenMPI installations on Argon to "map by socket". This is being done to improve the process distribution of jobs in the absence of any specific process mapping given at job submission time.
