University of Iowa Research Services (UI, ITS-RS) supports advanced digital services that are fast becoming essential tools for practitioners in all academic disciplines and research domains. While our resources and services are free to the majority of customers, a modest cost-recovery model for big consumers ensures that UI faculty, students and staff will always have access to skilled support personnel and the most current and secure performance technologies.
UI’s locally-hosted high-performance computing (HPC) systems feature a wide range of software applications. If we don’t have what’s needed, users may provide their own licenses for use on the systems we manage.
Our storage portfolio features short- and long-term solutions to meet every research project’s data management, security and compliance needs. Support personnel can help researchers draft data management and sharing plans that will satisfy granting agency requirements.
Advanced skills training is available on campus, and through the Association for Computing Machinery’s Special Interest Group for HPC Education (ACM, SIGHPC-Education).
Beyond locally-available resources, Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE) Campus Champions can introduce UI faculty, staff and students to the federated HPC and cloud resources, data collections and services that are supported by the U.S. taxpayer investment. Although they are physically-located in data centers across the country, XSEDE assets are accessible to local stakeholders via high-speed networks through UI’s Internet2 membership.
