Young researchers and students: Apply for an ISC travel grant by Feb. 15

The International Supercomputing Conference (ISC), held in Frankfurt, Germany June 16-21, 2019, will sponsor two travel grants this year. One award will support a student's attendance at ISC, and the other a young researcher. The deadline to apply is February 15, 2019.

The maximum award for successful U.S. applicants is 2,500 Euros ($2,845.87 USD). It is a highly competitive process, and the essay component is important. Since you'll compete with a global community of prospects, be sure to explain what makes your case unique. The evaluation criteria include the applicant's need of HPC and lack of funding alternatives, the estimated cost of travel and accommodation, and how they plan to pay forward the knowledge they acquire at the conference. Naturally, applicants must also meet all requirements listed in the “Who is Eligible to Apply” section.

The student awardee will participate in ISC's student program, which includes a vendor career fair. Most of the big US tech companies are present, and many have global-reaching career opportunities that would interest U.S. candidates.

About the conference from the ISC website: "The ISC High Performance conference will bring together over 3,500 researchers and commercial users, and 160 exhibitors, ready to share their experiences with the latest technology and products of interest to the high performance computing (HPC) community.

Together with our 2019 program chair, Prof. Yutong Lu, we present you 13 topics that we believe are vital to shaping the HPC industry.

One of the expanded topic areas this year is machine learning, a set of technologies that has been adopted by high performance computing users to advance scientific research and commercial applications in novel ways and by HPC vendors to extend their reach into additional markets."
