HPC Webinar announcement
The University of Iowa EPSCoR Cyberinfrastructure group is pleased to announce that we will be offering a webinar on high performance computing (HPC) on April 3rd, 2013 3:00-~5:00pm.
High performance computing. The first workshop of 2013 will focus on high performance computing. As the scale and complexity of research questions continues to increase, computing paradigms have evolved to address larger problems. To respond to these demands for computing resources, The University of Iowa (UI) has developed an HPC environment for students, faculty and researchers. The UI cluster, Helium, is comprised of over 350 compute nodes with over 3600 CPU cores connected by a high-speed network. Researchers can use the system free of cost (within reason) so Helium provides a real asset for the UI community. This workshop will introduce participants to the Helium cluster resource and present an example of faculty research using HPC.
Presenters: The presenters for this workshop include Ben Rogers and Pablo Carrica. Ben is the director of Research Services for the UI Information Technology Services group. He also helped design and develop the Helium cluster so he is particularly knowledgeable about the system and how it is being used. Pablo Carrica is an associate professor in the College of Engineering and a research engineer at the IIHR—Hydroscience & Engineering center on the UI campus. His research interests include computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and high performance computing. Pablo uses the Helium cluster in his own research.
Target audience: Anyone interested in HPC is welcome to attend. Generally the focus will be on researchers who might benefit from the UI resources.
Workshop date: April 3, 2013 3:00-5:00pm
Location: UCC 2390. More information here: http://www.uiowa.edu/~maps/u/ucc1.htm.
Participation: Participants can attend the conference in person (UCC 2390) or through the Blackboard Collaborate software. The link to join through Collaborate is: https://globalcampus.uiowa.edu/join_meeting.html?meetingId=1262344809241. You do not need to register to join the event. The event will be recorded and links to the video will be placed on the EPSCoR Cypoint site: https://www.cypoint.iastate.edu/group/EPSCoR/Public/Workshops/default.aspx.
